Naturally Raised Shetland Sheep

Our Shetland Ram with his head sticking through fence

As far back as Old Testament times, sheep have been raised and cared for. In return, the shepherd had meat and wool for clothing.

The Shetland breed came to the Americas in December, 1980 from the British Isles. Colonel G. D. Dailley of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada was solely responsible for the import of this breed. To read the amazing story of how this came about, go here: Maple Ridge Sheep Farm
The Shetland is a small breed that thrives, even in poor pasture conditions. It can have coats of different colors. Ours have brown, white, black, gray, and a mixture in between. The fleece is good for spinning and they produce well. Although a small breed, they are still a good meat producer for the size.
